Mindsets

Mindsets

Hi AwesoMEr’s

This month I want you to think about how you learn and face challenges.

Ever wanted to learn or do something new but told yourself you don’t have the smarts or ability so you didn’t even try?

Or when it got too hard, you told yourself ‘I’m just not good at this, there’s no point’ and stopped? Or even thought ‘I don’t want to look stupid or fail in front of others so I won’t try’.

I have.

What I now know is that this way of thinking is known as a fixed mindset. And it can limit us from achieving our goals and dreams.

The opposite of a fixed mindset is a growth mindset.

A growth mindset means we approach new and challenging tasks with the view that we don’t know how to do something YET. However, given hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to make and learn from mistakes, we can learn and do incredible things. While we may never be a global sports star or win a Pulitzer Prize, we can develop and grow our abilities to achieve our own personal goals.

In Module 10: Mindsets of The Resilience Toolkit eCourse we are talking about how to switch to a growth mindset and learn to face new challenges.

Next month, as we face down the end of the year I want to expand on this month’s topic and many of the others we’ve covered to look at how we can challenge negative thoughts and deal with failure – for ourselves and others around us. If we make mistakes, or if we have a negative experience, what thinking tools do we have to pick ourselves back up. The ultimate resilience goal!

See you then,

Juliet
